In this collection of personal essays, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood reveals stories about life, love, and working as a woman in Hollywood—along with behind-the-scenes dispatches from the set of the
new Gilmore Girls, where she plays the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore once again.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan. I came across the series accidentally by watching reruns on TV after school and suddenly I was hooked. I am completely obsessed with the show and have watched it several times in its entirety. So when I found out there was going to be a revival I nearly passed out! And then when I heard Lauren Graham was writing this book… I was absolutely thrilled. I just had to get my hands on it.

My Thoughts

I couldn’t wait to read this book so I opted for the instant Audible version from Amazon so I could listen to it. I was shocked when I found out it was narrated by the Gilmore Girl herself! When I listened to this audiobook, I realized Lauren Graham is Lorelai Gilmore. It was as if I was watching the show all over again. She narrated the book perfectly and I could tell that she really identified with her character. She was the same fast-talking, coffee-obsessed Lorelai we all know and love.

I thought this book would mostly be about Gilmore Girls only, but I really enjoyed learning about her childhood and how she got her big break into acting. It was super interesting to hear her funny stories and memories about college and home life. I also loved hearing about her opinions of women in Hollywood and about how she and her boyfriend Peter Krause met. My favorite part was definitely learning about the whole process behind Gilmore Girls and the Gilmore Girls revival. The book does have some spoilers about the revival so if you haven’t watched it, I recommend you watch the entire thing before reading this book. I think Lauren Graham is a great writer and this book was put together excellently. I laughed out loud at Lauren’s humor and was left wanting more when I finished the book.

Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything in Between)
One thing I didn’t like specifically about this audiobook, is that the original book comes with photos that Lauren references throughout the text that were not included in the audiobook. So you don’t really know what shes talking about when she says “See Photo #1” which made it a little bit difficult to follow at times. However, in my opinion, it was more worth it to hear the book in her voice than to be able to see the photos she was talking about.

All in all, this was a very refreshing and fun read and I was very pleased. I recommend it for any Gilmore Girls fan and I definitely cannot wait to read more of her work. The book was very engaging and it was the first time I’ve ever read something as funny and unique as Lauren Graham’s Talking As Fast As I Can was. Lauren is witty and relatable and the entire book felt like a friendly conversation with your best friend. The book was AMAZING and I would read it again!
