Pinterest is a powerful resource for growing your blog & business. If you’re already actively pinning on the platform, you might be wondering what else you can do to grow your online visibility? And the answer is: It’s not what you’re doing ON Pinterest, but what you’re doing OFF of it!

So what does that mean exactly? This means that you should optimize your blog posts for Pinterest!

In this post, you’re going to learn the top 4 things you should be doing that will optimize your blog posts for Pinterest.

1 | Creating keyword-rich blog post titles

First, the most important thing about making sure your content is Pinterest-optimized is having keyword-rich blog post titles.

Your blog post title is SO important when it comes to showing up in search. And not only that, but it’s also crucial for getting people to click on your posts in the first place.

If your blog post title is boring, too general, or confusing… nobody will click on your post. On the other hand, if it’s super specific, enticing, and incites curiosity in your audience, they’ll be thinking “whoa, I need to read this!”

Having a good blog post title is KEY! Here is an example of what I mean:

Option #1: New Drugstore Skincare

Option #2: The Best Drugstore Face Masks for Dry Skin

See the difference? Option #1 is pretty simple and generic. Option #2 is way more specific and tells you that you’ll specifically be learning about face masks for dry skin.

Once you craft a killer title, you can create multiple variations of it to use on your Pinterest graphics. Don’t feel like you have to use the *exact* wording on all of your Pinterest pins. Play around with it a little but remember to keep it high-quality!

2 | Adding Pinterest-optimized images into your posts

The next thing you need to optimize your blog posts for Pinterest is to include your Pinterest graphics in your posts.

Having graphics in your posts not only helps break up large blocks of text but also encourages your readers to pin your content. Chances are, it probably wouldn’t have crossed their mind had they not seen a pinnable image within your post!

If you don’t want the images displayed in your blog posts, you can actually hide them. And then when somebody goes to share your blog post, it’ll appear available for pinning without taking up any space in your actual blog post.

You can use HTML code or a WordPress plugin to do this.

How To Hide Your Pinterest Images

HTML version

  • Upload the image you want to hide in your blog post.
  • Go to the Text tab of your WordPress editor and find the code for the image. Here’s an example: <img class=”aligncenter size-full wp-image-5066″ src=”https://simply-amanda.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/IMG_4798.jpg&#8221; alt=”How To Optimize Your Blog Posts For Pinterest” width=”1555″ height=”1037″ />
  • Once you identify the code, you’re going to want to add <div style=”display: none;”> in front of the code and </div> at the back of the code.
  • When you flip back to Visual, your image should be hidden!

WP Tasty Pins WordPress Plugin

I love the Tasty Pins plugin because there is soooo much you can do with it besides hiding Pinterest graphics. This is a premium plugin and runs for $29. Once you purchase and install the plugin, it’s really easy to hide your images, force a specific image to be pinnable, get a Pinterest Save button for your website, set pin descriptions and so much more.

3 | Having clear social share buttons on your blog

You want to make it easy for your audience to share your content. You don’t want to be just assuming that they will go out of their way to share it or that they have a Pinterest Save button already installed on their computer.

It’s important to make it as easy as possible for them to pin your blog post.

You can set up a Save button either by grabbing the free Social Pug plugin or Tasty Pins like I mentioned above!

4 | Add your Pinterest account to your sidebar

The last way to optimize your blog posts for Pinterest is to add your Pinterest account to your sidebar!
